This announcement concerns the system failure of the ECCS Staff Email and MailHosting service that occurred on July 7, 2018.

It has been found that a MailHosting user account was hacked by a third party, following which a large amount of spam email had been sent intermittently from around 7 am on Saturday, July 7. This resulted in the system failing and causing significant delay in email deliveries.
The announcement below concerns stolen email accounts. Please follow the points mentioned in the announcement to prevent possible theft of accounts..

Having investigated the source IP addresses, and it has been found that those IP addresses in question belong to more than 20 countries and regions across the globe.
Setting up the “Country Authentication Restriction” (New Function of “Country Authentication Restriction” for the New MailSuite) properly reduces damages. Therefore, we requested that the settings used are to reviewed.

The email system has been restored, and is currently operating normally.
However, it may take longer than usual to send emails.

Sending of emails resumed around 19:10 on Sunday, July 8. However, at 10:00 pm, it is still taking longer than usual to send emails.

A failure in the email server occurred on Saturday July 7 preventing emails to be sent out from the ECCS Staff Email and MailHosting services properly.
Sending emails (including forwarding your incoming emails) to an email domain "other than" the ECCS Staff Email/MailHosting service has been significantly delayed, or not not been sent at all.
