Overview

On this page, we will keep you informed about the transition to the next generation of the Educational Campus-wide Computing System ECCS2021 (hereinafter referred to as "ECCS2021") from the current Educational Campus-wide Computing System ECCS2016 (hereinafter referred to as "ECCS2016"). Please refer to the public relation "Next generation of Educational Campus-wide Computing System (ECCS2021)" concerning the hardware being introduced with the ECCS2021.

Please note that the information published on this page is subject to change at any time based on the progress of the transition work.

Schedule

ECCS2021 will come into operation on March 1, 2021. Prior to this, each system of ECCS2016 will be phased out due to the system replacement from December 2020.

The terminals will become unavailable sequentially after December 2020. The last days that each terminal installation location will be available are listed on the latter part of this page. Please continue to access files in your home directory until 17:00 Friday, February 19 using WebDAV server .

• December 2020 to February 2021 - Current terminals will be shut down sequentially
• 17:00 on Friday, February 19 - The remote access environment, ssh server and WebDAV environment will be stopped.
  • Please be aware that you will not be able to access data in your home directory for about a week.
• 19:00 on Friday, February 19 - The following operations will become unavailable through the UTokyo Account user menu or the application menu.
  • Application for ECCS remote access environment
  • Edit for ECCS account information *This will be abolished.
  • Address setting for ECCS Cloud Email
  • Password change for ECCS Cloud Email
  • Application for ECCS usage (academic and administrative staff only)
  • Password change for ECCS IPP printing *This will be abolished. ECCS2021 allows IPP printing with a UTokyo Account password only in a Windows environment.
  • Application to discontinue the right to use ECCS
  • Application for ECCS usage (by proxy)
• 19:00 on Friday, February 19 - You will not be able to obtain an ECCS usage rights by taking the ECCS Online New User Information Seminar (students only). Even if you pass the seminar, you will obtain the ECCS usage rights after Thursday, February 25.
• 19:00 on Friday, February 19 - UTokyo Account password changes will no longer be reflected in ECCS. Even if you change your UTokyo Account password, please use the old password when using ECCS services, such as the WebDAV environment for the time being. Changes will be reflected as before after Thursday, February 25.
• Thursday, February 25 - User menu and application menu services exclusively for ECCS will be newly launched. Please use the single sign-on method using your UTokyo Account. In the user menu and application menu dedicated to ECCS, the following operations that was stopped on February 19 will be available. For details, please refer to the public relations "About the service start of the ECCS user menu and ECCS application menu" (currently available only in Japanese).
  • Application for ECCS remote access environment
  • Address setting for ECCS Cloud Email
  • Password change for ECCS Cloud Email
  • Application for ECCS usage (academic and administrative staff only)
  • Application to discontinue the right to use ECCS
  • Application for ECCS usage (by proxy)
• Monday, March 1 - ECCS2021 operation will start.
  • Due to work circumstances, some rooms will have the terminals installed during February, but will not be available for use.
  • Additionally, there will be locations where terminals cannot be used from March 1 depending on the department.

Other details will be announced as soon as they have been decided.

Transition from ECCS2016

Users who have an account for ECCS2016 will continue to be able to use ECCS2021. We will copy each user’s home directory in file servers of the ECCS2016 to file servers of the ECCS2021. This will enable for users to use their home directly by accessing to the file servers of the ECCS2021 or by logging in to ECCS terminals.

The last day for the use of ECCS terminals

The following is the list of rooms and locations with installed ECCS terminals and the last day of use with ECCS. Please note that the date is subject to change based on the Information Technology Center or faculty/department managing each PC room.

[Komaba Campus] Information Education Building

• ECCS terminals in the Information Education Building will become available after Monday, March 8 as the building has been closed from Saturday, February 13 to Sunday, March 7. Please see the website of the Information Education Building for more details.

[Hongo Campus] Information Technology Center

• Information Technology Center
  • As of December 2020, the PC class rooms will be open only during the period when classes are held. The number of available terminals will be reduced to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infections. This continues to holds true for the time being.
  • ECCS terminals are available until Friday, January 22
• Practice room on the basement floor of the Fukutake Hall
  • ECCS terminals are available until Friday, January 12

[Hongo・Komaba・Kashiwa Campuses] Distributed ECCS terminals

Printing Environment

• The last day for use of the multi-function printer on the ECCS2016, provided as a printing environment, is basically the same as the terminals installed near the printers.
• Printer pre-paid card for ECCS2016 can still be use with the ECCS2021.

Related Services

ECCS Cloud Email

• You will not be able to change mail addresses or passwords for the ECCS Cloud Email after 19:00 on Friday, February 19. This service is scheduled to resume on Thursday, February 25.

ITC-LMS

• This will not be affected by the ECCS system transition.

Lecture WWW Server

• This will not be affected by the ECCS system transition.

Update Information

• February, 15, 2021: Suspension period for the remote access environment, ssh server, and WevDAV envrionement added.
• February 9, 2021: Influence caused by the transition work after Friday, February 19 added.
