Overview
The Learning Management System, ITC-LMS, introduced in March 2019, will end its five years of operation soon and a new LMS will start operating from March 2024. This website will keep you updated about the next LMS with its overview and future schedules.
Main changes from the current ITC-LMS
The next generation of the ITC-LMS is a LMS which has had some parts of the current ITC-LMS modified. The main changes are listed below.
- The name of the next LMS will be UTOL (UTokyo LMS).
- Due to the system name change, the web address will be changed from https://itc-lms.ecc.u-tokyo.ac.jp/ to https://utol.ecc.u-tokyo.ac.jp/.
- If you access the old web address, you will be automatically redirected to the new web address after it has been changed for a certain period once the next generation of the ITC-LMS is launched.
- A password will be required when downloading/uploading list files containing information that can identify individual users (such as user ID, name)
- Users registered as “academic supporting user” (mainly persons in charge of academic affairs) will have access to all courses offered by their faculty/graduate school/research institute.
- “academic supporting users” can access courses, but are not considered as course participants.
- A course questionnaire function will be available.
- Previously, this function was only accessible to specific affiliations.
- If students remove their course registration or courses from their “Favorites” list on UTAS, these courses will be automatically unregistered from the LMS (on or after the following day).
- Participants in the same course will be able to exchange messages.
- You will be able to check the calendar for information on canceled classes, make-up classes and classroom changes of your registered courses.
- You will be able to automatically receive notifications of information updates through direct messages on your UTokyo Slack account from late March 2024, in addition to normal emails.
- We had planned to discontinue sending notifications to LINE accounts. However, after considering the situation, we have decided to continue providing notification in the same way as the current ITC-LMS. ( It will be possible to begin notifying from early April 2024)
- The portfolio function will be discontinued.
- Student ID card numbers will be displayed in the alphanumeric format without the hyphen (-).
Future Schedule
The following schedule may change depending on the work situation.
- February 23 (Fri・National Holiday), 2024 at 9:00 am: Operation of the current ITC-LMS will be stopped
- Data on the current ITC-LMS will be migrated to the new LMS
- Data on the LMS cannot be accessed until the operation of the new LMS starts
- February 28 (Wed), 2024 at 8:00 am: Trial operation of the new LMS will start
- March 19, 2024 from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm: new LMS workshop for faculty and staff will be held (in-person + online).
- April 1 (Mon), 2024: Operation of the new LMS will start
Important notices when transferring data
- Access to both current ITC-LMS and new LMS will be unavailable during the migration period (February 23 at 9:00 am ~ February 28 at 8:00 am). Please download all necessary data before the scheduled shutdown if you need to refer to such data on the LMS in order to grade students, etc.
- Data created after AY2019 and currently stored on the current ITC-LMS will be transferred to UTOL (the next ITC-LMS).
- Data targeted for the migration are the contents such as course materials and assignments registered by the course instructors, as well as assignment files uploaded by the enrolled students (please be aware that some data, such as the portfolio scheduled to be deleted in the new LMS, will not be transferred).
- All data created before AY2018 will be deleted on and after the date of the ITC-LMS service suspension (Friday, February 23, 2024 at 9:00 am, a national holiday)

- Regarding courses being offered (such as W-term courses in the 2023 academic year) during the migration period, there will be no problem with registering the deadlines for submission and answering periods for assignments or quizzes which may be during the migration period. (These settings will continue to be available in the new LMS). However, please refrain from setting the start or end date during the data migration period period.
Others
With the system name change, we are currently publicly seeking a new logo design for “UTOL” from among the University members (application deadline: January 31).

- February 16, 2024: Added descriptions regarding DM notifications on UTokyo Slack, the start time of the new LMS operation, and workshops for faculty and staff.
